Today, as part of my resolution to be "less frazzled" I thought I would talk about organization. Now, I am of the mindset that if I haven't used it in a month, I toss it. My husband is not this way! He keeps everything (until I throw it away without telling him) I just say, "Oh I don't know where that is honey!" It is my favorite line. Exp. if you live in a small space, like me. I just cannot have a bunch of stuff lying around! So here are some tips to DE-CLUTTER!
1. Give yourself ONE junk drawer. YES, I said it. ONE. Throw magazines, receipts, lose change, buttons, etc. When it is full, sort it, throw stuff away, and then start over. Don't say NO TO A JUNK DRAWER in your home, because honestly..you might want to keep that Anthropologie catalog or button that fell off your jacket last week--- that you will eventually get around to sewing.
2. The bottom of your closet is NOT storage. Don't store stuff just because it is extra space and has a door to close it off to guests. Install shelves or get a storage hanger/box. I keep shoes under my bed. No one can see it and they are easily accessible. If you store in the closet just thrown, you may never know how many pairs of black pumps you have. I do have a container store metal drawer in my closet- I store linens, belts, scarves, and purses in here. Oh, always have 2-3 extra changes of sheets! (Alright, alright...this will be another post.)
3. GET RID OF WIRE HANGERS! There is nothing more annoying than clean clothes falling off a hanger. Wire hangers suck. They don't match, stretch out clothes, and stick together. INVEST! Yes. Invest in NICE VELVET HANGERS! They are super thin, don't let clothes slip and are reasonably priced. I know, you have a lot of clothes..me too! This does not have to be done overnight. This took me a year and 1/2 to finish. They sell these at TJ MAXX, Marshalls, and Ross. I have even seen them in BULK at SAMS and Costco. BUY ONE set each couple of weeks- or whenever you can afford it. 10 for $12. Buy the black velvet hangers. Black is black. Don't do colors, they change every year. Each year, the shades are different. Then your closet won't match. I promise, you will be happy with your investment!

I share your hatred of wire hangers. They make me want to say not nice things. :) Thanks for telling the world to get rid of them... maybe you can convince the dry cleaners to stop using them? :)
