Vintage Silhouettes from Stylemekasey.com

From Style Me Kasey.com-I asked one of my favorite followers, Alyssa, to write about the vintage sillhouettes she's been collecting to decorate her adorable apartment. This is a fun project that I think you'll love. Here is SMK's guest Home blogger, Aly, telling us how she did it and giving us great tips.

"So, time for the first post for the home! If anyone knows me, I am obsessed with all things vintage for décor, so when the style guru asked me to write up a fun post for her, I was so honored! (Thanks SMK!)

Sooooo…..I am totally infatuated with-

Vintage Silhouettes!

I have been collecting these for over a year now, and I am kind of obsessed. The rule is to find pretty pieces that you love. Do not collect pieces just to collect, otherwise you will just be collecting junk and it will end up in the give-away pile during your spring-cleaning spree.

Look on Etsy.com or Ebay. Search for hand cut silhouettes for more original pieces. This is where you will find more of the portrait silhouettes. The painted pieces are going to be more common, and though these are pretty, you really need to vary your collection.

Most silhouettes are going to be on the small side, so if you find a chance to buy an 8 by 10 or larger, scoop it up! These are going to be harder to find, and if you group them, you don’t want them all the same size.

A tip-

DO NOT buy the George and Martha Washington ones. These are MAJOR reproductions and not as nice as others you will find. I don’t really like the Victorian ones either. I just have seen them everywhere and my favorites are the hand cut ones that are ONE OF A KIND! Also, don’t spend a fortune. The most I ever spent for one was $30.00.

Let me know what cute ones you find!!! Happy Hunting!

-Aly"

I really like the look of all of them together. I think it gives the wall an unexpected oomph! Grouping is fun, but you can always spread them out all over the house! There is no set rule!

Here is my wall… (a work in progress)

Now, once you have a few silhouettes, you need to decide how you want to make them uniform. Do you want them all in the same style frame? (Thick, thin, wood, etc.) I group mine in the same color. I use all black frames because I think it looks cleaner, but honestly, if the picture comes in a wooden frame, I paint it black and this saves me money!
